Applied Sequence and Biostratigraphy Program
Mission
- Provide a research and education program that approaches basin analysis through the
integration of biostratigraphic, geochronologic, and sequence stratigraphic data.
- Apply these techniques to ground-truth the resolution of seismic and subsurface interpretation.
- Develop new technologies and applications related to these disciplines including
seismic attribute recognition.
- Provide a repository for stratigraphic information vital to high resolution stratigraphy.
- Provide an interface with industry for educational and research excellence in geological science.
Vision
- Research: Provide applied R & D to improve stratigraphic resolution, identification of risk factors,
and return on capital employed for the petroleum and water resources industries.
- Training and Education: Provide educational and development opportunities in stratigraphy
for current and future petroleum and water resources employees through short courses and
traditional graduate programs.
- Information Capture: Develop stratigraphic databases and a repository of data, samples and specimens
vital to high resolution stratigraphy.
- Share Results: All research will be presented and published in a timely manner to transfer new
insights, knowledge, technology, and discoveries to the academic and professional research community.
